A Jeju museum built around the water-drop paintings of artist Kim Tschang-Yeul.
The Kim Tschang-Yeul Museum of Art is a Jeju provincial museum dedicated to the work of Kim Tschang-Yeul, an artist known for his water-drop paintings. Kim donated 220 of his major works to the museum, and the collection focuses on his paintings and related materials, alongside a broader aim of exhibiting and researching modern art.
Building design
The museum was designed by architect Hong Jae-seung. Seen from above, it takes the form of eight large cube-shaped structures arranged around a central courtyard. The layout is meant to express, in architectural form, the philosophy of return that ran through Kim's work.
