Wolhwawon Garden sits on the western edge of Hyowon Park in Gyeonggi Province. It is a traditional garden built in the style of Guangdong, China, and was constructed under a 2003 friendship and exchange agreement between Gyeonggi Province and Guangdong Province. Construction began on June 15, 2005, and the garden opened on April 17, 2006.

Design and Layout

The garden was designed to bring out the character of traditional Guangdong gardens, with the buildings and grounds arranged to complement each other. Windows are positioned so that the garden can be seen through them. In the rear garden, there is an artificial hill made of earth and an artificial lake, with an artificial waterfall and a boat-shaped pavilion set around the lake.

Construction and Details

The buildings were built using traditional Guangdong methods, with white plaster, blue brick, and wood. Classical Chinese poems and inscriptions are carved throughout the structures, and the roof joints were finished with wood, brick, and lime pieces.
