A forest recreation area in Chungcheong built around Korea's only dense metasequoia grove.

Jangtaesan Recreational Forest is a forest recreation area in Chungcheong known for the country's only dense stand of metasequoia trees, which gives the site a look different from most Korean forests. Walking paths run through the grounds along with a reflexology (health) path, a suspension bridge, a "textbook botanical garden," an ecological pond, and an outdoor forest classroom, so visitors can combine nature study with a walk in the woods.

Facilities and activities

The forest includes a small (380 square meter) sports area for group games such as mini soccer and basketball, plus a skyway, an observation deck, and slope play facilities built specifically to let visitors experience the metasequoia grove from different vantage points.

Summit view

An observation deck sits on Hyeongjebawi (Brothers Rock) at the summit of Jangtaesan. From there, visitors can look out over the sunset as well as rock formations such as Janggunbong (General Peak) and Haengsangbawi.
