Travel Map: Gyeongsang
매미성
Maemi Castle is located in Daegeum-ri, Jangmok-myeon, Geoje Island, South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. After Typhoon Maemi devastated farmland and the surrounding nature in 2003,
an individual named Baek Sun-sam built this exotic European medieval castle-style structure over a decade, without a blueprint, to protect against natural disasters.
The castle serves more as a symbolic and artistic structure than a practical defense facility for crop protection. It is now a popular photo spot for tourists and photographers. The views from the castle walls, particularly the East Sea and surrounding coastal scenery, are breathtaking, and the unique brick walls and fortress structures have become a popular spot on social media, including Instagram.
Admission to Maemi Castle is free and a must-see for any Geoje Island tourist. It also offers parking and convenient facilities.
