Travel Map: Seoul
N Seoul Tower | N 서울 타워
Iconic observation tower in the center of Seoul
Introduction
N Seoul Tower is Seoul’s iconic landmark sitting at the center of the city on Namsan Mountain. From above, you can see how mountains, rivers, highways, and neighborhoods interlock.
Is It Worth Visiting?
Yes, especially for first-time visitors wanting a full city overview. Skip if you dislike crowds, as this is now a heavily touristed destination. The view is impressive and helps you mentally map the city.
Highlights
Outdoor Viewing Areas
You do not need to pay to see Seoul from the tower. The plaza and terraces around the tower base offer excellent panoramic views at no cost. On clear days, this is more than enough.
Observatory Deck in Tower
The paid deck offers floor to ceiling windows and the highest viewpoint. Worth it if visibility is good and you want the full experience. If the day is hazy, stay outside and save your money. It also has the best bathroom view you will ever get in your life.
Love Locks
You will find a massive collection of locks symbolizing couples’ commitment. Crowded and slightly chaotic, but a genuine snapshot of contemporary Korean dating culture.

Getting There
Walking Routes (30-40 min)
- Several trails lead up to the tower. Check the website
- Best option when weather is pleasant. Recommended during cherry blossom season or fall foliage.
- Personally recommend this trail . Slope is gentle with great views. Stop at Jamdoobong Photo Island for excellent views especially in the sunset.

Circular Bus (10-15 min)
- Buses 01A and 01B circle Namsan and stop near the tower.
- Convenient if you want to skip the walk. Expect crowds during peak season.

Cable Car (15min + queue)
- Running for decades, featured in countless Korean dramas and TV shows.
- More expensive and lines can get long, but the scenic ride is worth experiencing.

Personal Recommendation
Take the bus up before sunset, then walk down after dark.
Local Tips
Go Around Sunset
Arrive about 40 minutes before sunset. You get daylight views, sunset colors, and night lights in one visit. This timing is ideal.
Check Air Quality
If the air is hazy, the view loses a lot of impact. On clear days, it is outstanding. This makes a real difference here.
You Do Not Need to Eat There
Restaurants are convenient but not special. Eat in nearby neighborhoods like Myeongdong or Itaewon instead.
Note: “Namsan Tonkatsu” near the cable car station is well-known but personally think it’s overrated. It’s just ordinary tonkatsu at tourist prices.
Interesting Facts
Where the Demon Was Hunted
- In KPop Demon Hunters, this is where Huntrix defeated the Demon King Gwi-ma and Saja Boys in the finale.
- The stadium near N Seoul Tower shown in the show is fictional.

Early Purpose
- When completed in 1975, the tower consolidated multiple broadcasting transmitters into a central hub.
- But its primary purpose was actually Cold War era signal jamming. The tower broadcast interference signals to block North Korean radio and TV, which were accessible in Seoul at the time.
Namsan’s Dark History
- While Namsan is now a popular tourist destination, it was synonymous with the Korean CIA in the 60-80s during the height of McCarthyism and authoritarian rule.
- People trembled at the phrase “someone from Namsan is here” and “going to Namsan” meant being taken for interrogation and torture.
- This era is depicted in the films 1987: When the Day Comes and The Man Standing Next.
